Halloween is Coming Soon!

Wall decorations that I drew for my kids to cut.
This is a great activity to practice fine motor skills.

I remember my teachers decorating the classroom every time a holiday is coming up. I remember how we all felt, ooooo, ahhhh, wowww, cool!

Those are the exact same feelings/moments that I want to duplicate for my kids. I told myself that any child I work for I will do whatever it takes to give them what I had back then. Those moments, the memories, the curiosity shapes us as individuals and I want them to know that Halloween is coming up, Christmas is coming, their birthdays, valentines day and so on. I remember always looking at the calendar for any holiday because I know we will be doing something special that's not in the curriculum.

Halloween goodies for a special girl
After having the parents permission, I went crazy at our local dollar store. I bought different types of wings (ladybug, bee, angel, witch) for role playing, dress up and of course her choice of costume. I also bought a lot of decorations for the walls, windows, doors and tables. Let's not forget our Halloween activities and special Halloween stickers!

All came up to $25, what a deal!

I LOVE THE DOLLAR STORE!

Till next time,

Beading Fun!

When I first started working within this field, I have learned a lot. What exercises target fine motor skills, what targets oral motor and so on. I remember most children had a hard time putting a string through a bead. We would get the big beads from Melissa & Doug and start with a shoe lace with 3 beads at a time. Once he/she masters the target, they will then move onto smaller beads with a thinner string.

I like to go over everything that the child has learned throughout the months to see of she has generalized them.

We were making bracelets for ourselves and of course one for her mommy too!

Missing in Action

It's been forever since I last posted.

I'm finally done with all my training and started working on my own this week. It's going pretty well so far, and I am having the best time ever!

I've been so caught up with work,  all I ever think about is work. When I'm home, I always go straight to my room and straight to the computer. Of course once you turn it on, all you see are multiple tabs full of toys, cool printables, lesson plans, curriculums, crafts and more! Meh, It's not as bad as I make it sound, I actually enjoy planning curriculums and lesson plans. I love buying toys and doing arts and crafts with them, the kids love it and therefore I love it. I want them to know that I'm their new best friend and we are going to have so much fun together!

It's getting late, I'll do an earlier post tomorrow!

Starting Fresh

On Tuesday, I had  an interview with one of the bigger ABA companies in Vancouver. It's been a while since my last interview, but it went really well.

For once, I didn't prepare for the interview. By that I mean I didn't go over questions that I thought they would ask me, I just answered them on spot. I used to prepare before the interview, going over questions on the internet, get my colleagues to ask me tough interview question, just so that I would be well prepared.  Well, it turns out that preparing just leads/creates more anxiety! I told myself "It's OK, just be yourself, show your genuine interest and answer the questions to your best ability" (the moment is more candid and more real, they will appreciate it).

During the interview, she asked me the following questions:
-Tell me about yourself?
-Why did you chose this as a career?
-Do you have any experience?
-What do you most like about this position?
-What do you see yourself doing in two years?
-Who would you say is a mentor to you?

I answered all those questions as honest as possible. The interview went really well, we were even saying certain words the same and we just laughed. We had a very good first impression and a lot of smiles and laughs. It was a good interview. After the interview, she told me to go in the school and just to see the kids, see what they do in  the centre. Of course I agreed and went in to observe one of the BCBA.

When I was done, I went back to the person who interviewed me and she told me to be on a look out for her email. She wanted to introduce me to another consultant so I can do in home services for them.

I left the place feeling amazing and when I went to get my phone, I looked down and saw that I already received the email she was talking about.
